The court has acquitted all accused in the murder case of Rajshahi University (RU) Chhatra League activist Faruk Hossain. The verdict was delivered at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday (October 12) by Md. Julfikar Ullah, Judge of Rajshahi Metropolitan Additional Sessions Judge Court-1.
Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Kaniz Fatema confirmed the verdict, saying that among the 105 accused, several had already died. However, during the trial, witnesses and eyewitnesses could not identify or accuse any specific individual. As no concrete evidence was presented against any of the accused, the court acquitted all of them.
The case dates back to the night of February 8, 2010, when violent clashes broke out between Chhatra League and Islami Chhatra Shibir over dormitory control and campus dominance at Rajshahi University. The following morning, the body of Chhatra League activist Faruk Hossain was recovered from a manhole.
Subsequently, the then General Secretary of the RU Chhatra League, Majedul Islam Apu, filed a murder case with Motihar Police Station, naming 35 Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists and accusing 20–25 unidentified persons.
After a lengthy investigation, on July 28, 2012, Investigation Officer Zillur Rahman submitted a 1,269-page charge sheet to the court, accusing 110 individuals — including former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid, Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, and several Shibir leaders.
Notably, Nizami and Mujahid were later executed following their conviction in separate war crimes cases, while Delwar Hossain Sayeedi died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
