Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) in northern regions, expressed outrage during the concluding speech of a long march in Panchagarh on Wednesday (11 October) after the electricity suddenly went out during the program. He even issued a provocative warning to local NESCo officials, saying he would “tear out their hearts.
Report: Delivering his speech at the July Memorial near Sher-e-Bangla Park in Panchagarh town, Sarjis Alam recalled that similar incidents had occurred before—electricity had been cut during programs on three consecutive days. He accused the power company of political bias, saying, “The owner of NESCo and his father must answer for this… Those responsible are political bankrupts; we will see how brave they are. We will tear out their hearts and throw them on the streets.”
He further warned that no institution showing political favoritism in Panchagarh would be allowed to operate there, calling it his personal commitment. He added that he would continue to speak out against extortion, land grabbing, syndicates, drug trafficking, and corruption, and that those responsible would no longer have peace in the region.
The long march, organized by the Panchagarh district unit of NCP, started at 12:15 pm from the historic Chinikol Maidan toward Banglabandha. Hundreds of participants, including several pickups and around 500 motorcycles, joined the march, with Sarjis Alam leading the procession. The event was aimed at protesting extortion and other criminal activities.
