Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has announced that nearly one million government officials, who will be on election duty during the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, will be given the opportunity to cast their votes.
Speaking at a dialogue with representatives of electronic media at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday, the CEC said the commission is committed to holding a free and fair election. He emphasized the vital role of the media in ensuring a level playing field and curbing the misuse of artificial intelligence.
The CEC also revealed that during the voter list update, around 2.1 million deceased voters were identified—many of whom had been casting votes in the past. This issue will be resolved in the upcoming polls, he said. Additionally, expatriates and government officials engaged in election duty will be brought under the voting process.
Two rounds of dialogue were held with journalists from television, print, and online outlets, where nearly 50 media representatives participated.
The CEC further stated that the commission will hold a meeting with women leaders and election experts on October 7, followed by discussions with freedom fighters and political parties. He assured that the commission will implement the recommendations and opinions emerging from these dialogues.
Notably, the series of dialogues began on September 28, but on the first day, more than half of the invited civil society members were absent.
