The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has issued a three-point demand following the attack on Akhtar Hossain in New York. Their demands include— the immediate arrest of the attackers, the resignation of Bangladesh’s Consul General in New York, and disciplinary action against officials who failed to ensure security.
On Tuesday (September 23), at a press conference in Dhaka, NCP convener Nahid Islam announced these demands. He further said that pro-Awami League officials and advisers appointed during the fascist regime must be removed, the list of arrestees must be published, and the trial of the July massacre should be expedited.
Nahid Islam alleged that due to government weakness and administrative failures, opportunities for such attacks are being created. Many accused individuals are securing bail and continuing to threaten victims and families of martyrs.
In protest of the incident, NCP announced demonstrations in Shahbagh as well as across all districts and metropolitan cities of the country.
