The Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) election has been rescheduled. Instead of the previously announced date of October 12, the polls will now be held on October 15. The decision was made by the university administration in response to candidates’ demands.
On Tuesday (September 23), CUCSU Election Commission Secretary Professor A.K.M. Foriful Haque Siddiqui confirmed the matter at a press conference.
A large number of candidates are contesting in various posts of the CUCSU election. For the Vice President (VP) post, 25 candidates are in the race; 22 for General Secretary (GS), and 22 for Assistant General Secretary (AGS). Many others are vying for positions such as Sports Secretary, Cultural and Publications Secretary, Office Secretary, Women’s Welfare Secretary, among others. Notably, as many as 84 candidates are competing for just five Executive Member positions.
The university administration stated that the decision to change the date was made to ensure a participatory and fair election, giving due importance to the candidates’ requests.
