In the past 24 hours, 12 people have died from dengue fever in Bangladesh, marking the highest single-day death toll from the disease this year. During the same period, 740 more patients were admitted to hospitals with dengue symptoms.
According to a statement from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday (21 September), the data covers the period from 8:00 AM on Saturday (20 September) to 8:00 AM on Sunday.
Hospital admissions included 237 patients in Dhaka city hospitals, 165 in Barishal division (excluding city corporation areas), 147 in Dhaka division (outside city corporations), 77 in Chattogram division, 28 in Rajshahi division, 22 in Mymensingh division, 52 in Khulna division, 3 in Rangpur division, and 9 in Sylhet division.
Of the 12 fatalities, six were women and six men, including five from Barishal division, one from Chattogram division, three from Dhaka South City Corporation, two from Dhaka North City Corporation, and one from Mymensingh division.
So far this year, as of 21 September, dengue has claimed 179 lives, while 41,831 patients have been hospitalized nationwide due to the disease.
