Renowned Indian singer, composer, and actor Zubeen Garg has passed away. On Friday, he died in Singapore following a tragic scuba diving accident. According to local media reports, Singapore police rescued him from the sea and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite being kept in intensive care, doctors could not save him. He was 52 years old.
The celebrated singer from Assam had traveled to Singapore to perform at the North-East Festival. He was scheduled to perform today, but the sudden news of his death has left India’s music fraternity and millions of fans in shock. Born on November 18, 1972, Zubeen Garg was a multi-talented artist—singer, lyricist, music director, composer, producer, actor, and filmmaker. His career took a sharp turn in 1992 when he won a gold medal in Western solo performance at the Youth Festival. That same year, he made his professional debut with the Assamese album Anamika.
In 2006, Zubeen rose to national fame with his soulful rendition of “Ya Ali” in Anurag Basu’s film Gangster, a song that remains iconic to this day.
