The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has withdrawn from the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) election, alleging that the polls have turned into a mockery and failed to ensure neutrality.
At a press briefing, JCD’s GS candidate Tanjila Hossain Baishakhi, along with other nominated candidates, said they were not allowed to enter Tajuddin Hall. They also pointed out irregularities, including the absence of photos on the voter list, mob chaos in Hall No. 21, and an attack on an independent candidate in Jahanara Imam Hall.
Baishakhi said, “The election has lost its neutrality. We did not want the OMR machines supplied by a Jamaat leader, yet the ballots from that same institution are being used. There is a question as to whether 10–20% of the ballots were handed over to Shibir.”
She further alleged that in the girls’ halls, the same student was seen voting multiple times, while Shibir-affiliated journalists misbehaved with JCD candidates.
According to JCD, the election does not reflect the true verdict of students. Calling it rigged and farcical, they said they had no choice but to boycott.
