Reaffirming that the election will be held as declared, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the nation will face grave consequences if the election does not take place, as it would increase the risk of fascism’s return. He expressed this concern on Friday (August 29) at a publication ceremony at the National Press Club.
Cautioning party leaders and activists, Fakhrul said, “Do not assume you have come to power, or are even close to it. Conspiracies and plots are ongoing. To earn people’s trust, we must go to them with good deeds.”
He stated that only a free, fair, and impartial election can pave the way to the desired state system. All political parties must move forward together on the roadmap of democratic transition.
Recalling past contributions, Fakhrul said, Ziaur Rahman established multi-party democracy and press freedom, while Khaleda Zia introduced parliamentary democracy. BNP has been calling for reforms from the very beginning.
He alleged that some political parties are trying to discredit BNP through false propaganda. “We cannot allow anyone the chance to say BNP is doing wrong,” Fakhrul warned.
His message was clear—the people are eager for change, and BNP must become the vehicle of that change.
