In a operation by Malaysian immigration authorities, 94 illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis, have been arrested. The arrests were made during two separate raids in various locations in the state of Selangor. Among those detained are citizens of Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, Nepal, India, and Pakistan.
Malaysia’s Director-General of Immigration, Datuk Zakaria Shaban, stated that the first raid was conducted on Monday at an entertainment park in the Kajang area of Selangor. During this operation, 46 illegal immigrants were arrested, including three Bangladeshi men. The following day, Tuesday, a second raid was carried out at a factory in Balakong and a supermarket in Puchong, resulting in the arrest of 48 more individuals.
According to immigration authorities, the ages of those arrested range from 18 to 49 years. All of them were found to be residing in the country illegally, in violation of immigration laws. Although many attempted to flee, they were unable to evade the vigilant efforts of immigration officials.
Director-General Zakaria made it clear, stating, “The zero-tolerance policy towards illegal immigrants will continue.” He also issued a stern warning that legal action will be taken against employers who hire undocumented workers. All detainees have been transferred to the Millenium Immigration Depot in Beranang for further investigation.
