In a bizarre incident, the intercity Mohanagar Express traveling from Chittagong to Dhaka split into two sections while moving near Ashuganj station in Brahmanbaria. The incident occurred around 5:35 pm on Monday (August 18), shortly after the train had departed Brahmanbaria station at 5:15 pm. Witnesses reported that the train separated between coaches “Ta” and “Tha,” leaving five rear compartments behind as the front section entered Ashuganj station.
Train guard KM Shahinur Islam confirmed the incident but assured that no casualties were reported. Railway staff immediately began efforts to reconnect the detached coaches by moving the train backward. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of this unusual separation, which has raised concerns about rail safety protocols.
While such incidents are rare, transportation experts emphasize the need for thorough technical inspections and enhanced safety measures. Local railway officials have launched an investigation, vowing to address any mechanical or operational lapses to prevent future occurrences. The incident has sparked calls for modernizing Bangladesh’s rail infrastructure to ensure passenger safety.
