The Election Commission (EC) is set to publish the roadmap for the 13th National Parliamentary Election next week as part of its preparatory measures. On Thursday, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed informed journalists that the roadmap will outline a detailed timeline for all electoral processes—from the initial stages to the official gazette notification of results. As announced by Principal Advisor Muhammad Yunus, the election is expected to take place in the first half of February 2026, ahead of Ramadan.
The EC Secretary stated that the roadmap will specify deadlines for key tasks, including voter list updates, constituency delimitation, political party registrations, electoral law reforms, and procurement of election materials. Since 2008, it has been customary for the EC to release such roadmaps ahead of elections. The previous EC had published its roadmap in September 2022, a year and a half before the last election.
The current EC, which assumed office in November 2024, initially drafted a preliminary plan targeting December 2025. However, with the likely election date now set for February, the plan is being revised. A final meeting on August 18 will approve the updated roadmap, which will subsequently be published in booklet form, according to sources.
