The price of furnace oil used in electricity generation has been increased by 11 taka 92 paisa per liter. According to the new decision, the price of furnace oil per liter has increased from 96 taka 86 paisa to 108 taka 78 paisa. The new price will be effective from midnight.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) issued an order on the new rates on Wednesday (September 30). The country consumes about two million tons of furnace oil annually, a large part of which is used in power generation.
The price of furnace oil had been reduced in several consecutive rounds. On June 30, the price per liter was reduced from 113 taka 54 paisa to 109 taka 10 paisa. Later, the price was reduced in two more rounds, bringing it down to 96 taka 86 paisa.
After the interim government took office, the authority to set the prices of furnace oil and Jet A-1 was given to BERC through a notification on September 15. Then, after a public hearing in January, the commission set the prices of furnace oil for the first time on February 22.
Since then, BERC has been setting new prices for furnace oil every month in line with international market prices.
