Jerseys and footballs have been distributed to students of private schools (KG schools) in Pubail, Gazipur, with the aim of encouraging sports participation, enhancing physical fitness, and fostering mental development.
These sports items were distributed on behalf of Shawkat Hossain Sarkar, the Administrator of Gazipur City Corporation.
The distribution ceremony took place on Saturday (September 26) afternoon in a festive atmosphere at the grounds of Amir Uddin Munshi School and College in the Mirer Bazar Kamargaon area of Pubail, Gazipur. Students from various KG schools and other stakeholders participated in the event.
Presided over by Md. Masudur Rahman Siddiqui, President of the Gazipur KG School Association (Pubail Thana), the event featured a speech by the chief guest, Mehnaz Sarkar Shilpi. She is the Managing Director of Kashimpur Girls’ High School and College, President of Konabari Degree College, and an advisor to the Gazipur KG School Association.
Md. Monir Hossain Sikdar Bokul, President of Pubail Thana BNP, spoke as the inaugurator. Harun-or-Rashid Sarkar, General Secretary of Pubail Thana BNP, and Arif Hossain Bhuiyan, the Organizing Secretary, addressed the gathering as special guests.
Additionally, distinguished guests including Md. Azizul Islam Manu (President of Gazipur KG School Association), Alhaj Md. Raunak Uddin (General Secretary), along with other association leaders and teachers, delivered speeches.
In her address, chief guest Mehnaz Sarkar Shilpi stated that alongside academics, sports play a crucial role in the physical and mental development of children.
She further added, “Our Honorable Prime Minister has directed the construction of playgrounds in all 57 wards of Gazipur Metropolitan City. I hope to be able to provide these playgrounds very soon; Gazipur City Corporation will gift these grounds to the community.”
Md. Azizul Islam Manu, President of the Gazipur KG School Association, remarked, “The chief guest of today’s event, Mehnaz Sarkar Shilpi, is a compassionate mother figure.” We hold deep affection for our KG schools, the mothers, and the children themselves. To date, we have provided sports equipment, jerseys, and balls to over a thousand KG schools across the metropolis. Furthermore, any resources received from the Gazipur City Corporation will be distributed for the welfare of the students.
Alhaj Md. Raunak Uddin, General Secretary of the Gazipur KG School Association, noted that the event’s chief guest, Mehnaz Sarkar Shilpi—who also serves as an advisor to the association—has pledged her full cooperation. She will work to ensure the establishment of a playground in every ward and the implementation of the directive issued by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman.
Speakers at the event emphasized the immense importance of sports alongside academics for the physical and mental development of children and adolescents. Regular participation in sports not only enhances students’ physical fitness but also fosters discipline, leadership qualities, mutual cooperation, and a competitive spirit. Consequently, initiatives like the distribution of sports equipment play a vital role in further encouraging students to engage in sports.
Subsequently, jerseys and footballs were distributed among students from over a hundred KG schools. The students displayed great enthusiasm and excitement upon receiving the sports gear.
The organizers stated that this initiative aims to involve students in sports alongside their studies and to build a healthy, robust generation. They expressed hope that such activities for the welfare of students would continue in the future.
