Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will address the general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in Bengal on Thursday night. This will be his first address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Although he was scheduled to deliver his speech at 5pm local time, the time may be slightly ahead of the United Nations. His speech is expected to begin at 3am on Friday.
Prime Minister’s adviser Mah Di Amin said at a briefing at the ‘Hyat Grand Central New York’ hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday. He said the prime minister will convey Bangladesh’s speech before the international community to uphold the emotions, feelings, aspirations and expectations of the people of the country.
Tarique Rahman is the third person from the same family to address the United Nations General Assembly. Earlier, her father, martyred President Ziaur Rahman and mother former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, spoke at the United Nations General Assembly.
In the Prime Minister’s speech, various national and international issues of Bangladesh will be given importance. These include sustainable solutions to the Rohingya crisis, the impact of climate change, climate finance, sustainable development, economic cooperation, global peace and security and international cooperation.
The Prime Minister will also deliver the inaugural address at a high-level meeting to address the existential threat caused by rising sea level at the UN headquarters. The meeting is an opportunity to highlight Bangladesh’s position on climate change and its impact.
This session is very important for Bangladesh. The President of the 81st General Assembly is the President of Bangladesh. Khalilur Rahman According to the United Nations, he has been elected on 2 June 2026 for a year from September 8.
During her visit to New York, the prime minister has already participated in various UN programmes, high-level meetings and bilateral talks. He held discussions with world leaders and international organizations on the Rohingya crisis, climate change, economic cooperation and international issues.
During the General Debate of this year’s General Assembly, world leaders are highlighting global peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, international cooperation and ongoing crises. In this context, the Prime Minister’s Bangla address is an important diplomatic programme to highlight Bangladesh’s position on an international level.
