Six months after the formation of the government, there are discussions going on in the political and administrative quarters that could bring important reshuffls to the cabinet of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
After BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was declared the party’s candidate for the post of president, the possibility of a change in some ministries, including the local government, rural development and cooperatives ministry.
The matter is being discussed in the secretariat and political circles on Thursday (August 13th) afternoon. However, the Cabinet Division has not yet made an official announcement on possible changes in the cabinet.
According to the discussion, new responsibilities may be allocated to the local government, rural development and cooperatives ministry after Mirza Fakhrul withdrew from his current government and party duties as he was a candidate for the presidency.
According to sources, the issue of giving responsibility to the current home minister Salahuddin Ahmed to the local government, rural development and cooperatives ministry is in the discussion.
On the other hand, the possibility of giving responsibility to the home ministry is currently under discussion about Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, who is currently in charge of the Ministry of Water Resources. In that case, big responsibilities will be redistributed in two important ministries of the cabinet.
According to policy-making sources, such reorganizations can be taken quickly to maintain the pace of administrative activities and ensure continuity of the duties of important ministries.
However, no official decision or notification has been issued regarding the change of responsibility of Salahuddin Ahmed or Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Ani.
