Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has formally inaugurated the ‘Army Commander Election Board-2026’ of the Bangladesh Army. He inaugurated the program as the chief guest at the Army Headquarters on Sunday (July 26).
In the first phase of the Army Chief Selection Board, eligible officers will be considered for promotion from Colonel to Brigadier General and from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel.
In her inaugural address, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the great independence proclaimer, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, martyrs, war wounded and brave freedom fighters of the great Liberation War. She also remembered the martyred members of the Bangladesh Army and the army personnel killed and injured while on duty in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
He instructed the members of the Election Board to give utmost importance to the professional skills, leadership qualities, discipline, honesty, trustworthiness, loyalty, and ability to perform duties of the officers, rather than political ideology or personal likes and dislikes in the matter of promotion.
The Prime Minister said that the Bangladesh Army is playing an important role in protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty, as well as maintaining internal peace and order, dealing with disasters and supporting the civil administration. She thanked all members of the force, including the Army Chief, for this contribution.
Upon arrival at the event, the Prime Minister was welcomed by the Army Chief and the Chief of General Staff (CGS). The Army Chief expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for attending the inauguration of the Election Commission.
The Prime Minister’s Defense Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam and senior military officials were present at the event. After the event, the Prime Minister participated in a photo session with the army officers and recorded comments in the inspection book.
