Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed to have targeted facilities in the state oil companies Aramco’s Jizan and Yanbu regions in response to Saudi Arabia’s military operation.
Black smoke was seen rising from a building in Jizan after the attack on Saturday (July 25).
A photo circulating on social media showed thick black smoke coming out of a facility in Aramco. The AFP news agency has verified the authenticity of the photo.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Saudi government regarding the attack.
Earlier, Saudi authorities had instructed residents of Jizan and Yanbu to remain alert considering the possible security risks.
Tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis have erupted over a plane that was barred from landing in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, nearly two weeks ago. Since then, both sides have been carrying out attacks. The Houthis claimed the latest attack on Aramco’s infrastructure following a Saudi missile attack in Yemen on Saturday.
