Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from the post of Union Education Minister. He said in a post on social media X (former Twitter) that he would submit his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (July 25th).
His resignation came hours before the third round of agitators meeting with the central government.
Protesters have been protesting in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for more than a month. One of their main demands was the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The movement was formed over allegations of various irregularities in the NEET examination and the education system.
The demand for the resignation of the education minister was also the main issue in the previous two-point meeting of the central government with the protesters. The leadership of the movement made it clear that it is not possible to reach an agreement with the government without the removal of Dharmendra Pradhan.
The resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan is seen as an important step by the government to resolve the ongoing crisis. However, the government has not yet officially announced the full implementation of the protesters, such as the non-legitation of legal action against the protesters and compensation for the families of the victims.
