The administration has taken strict security measures to protest the Facebook-based satirical platform Karoch Janata Party (CJP) in New Delhi. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the temporary closure of sixteen metro stations in the capital to keep the situation under control.
From Wednesday morning (July 22nd), Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramkrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seba Tirth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh and Shivaji Stadium stations have been closed for security reasons. However, interchange facilities are available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.
The protest was the result of the allegations of question paper leakage. The CJP has taken steps in this regard. Thousands of people took part in the capital and imposed restrictions on traffic and metro services.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has been accused of police crackdown on the protesters. On Tuesday, the Delhi Police detained Priyanka Gandhi Bhadra and some top leaders of the Congress while taking part in a protest in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence. They were later released.
In a video message released during the detention, Rahul Gandhi raised a five-point demand to the government. These include the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, action against the police personnel who attacked the students, withdraw the cases filed against the protesters, the prime minister’s apology for suppressing the protests and speedy reform of the education and examination system.
