Tensions in the Middle East have intensified in the wake of a series of U.S. military strikes. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transport routes.
At the same time, they said, not a single drop of oil, gas or any chemical fertilizer will be allowed to be exported through this route until the situation changes.
The IRGC said in a statement that the Strait of Hormuz would be closed if the “unishing” of the United States continues. The company said that the export of fuel to the region will be completely stopped.
The IRGC also said two oil tankers exploded during the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. This caused a huge fire on both ships. Rescue teams are continuing to evacuate the sailors and crew.
The IRGC has warned international shipping companies. They said the U.S. should avoid risky waterways and give the highest priority to the safety of workers.
The U.S. Central Command (Centcom) said a new military operation against Iran was carried out to reduce the capability of attacking commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The latest attack targeted Iran’s military command center, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites and air defense systems.
