Nepal has created a new political tension over unemployment, economic uncertainty and frustration of the youth. Protests have erupted across the country demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah.
Three young men have attempted suicide in the last three days; two of them have died and one is undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
According to NDTV, protests have intensified in the capital, Kathmandu, after the incident. The protesters alleged that the government has failed to take any effective steps to ensure employment, income and future security of the youth.
Zen-ji Nepal, an organisation, has accused the government of anti-people and authoritarian rule. The organization claims that the recent budget and government policy does not reflect practical initiatives to ensure employment or economic security for young people.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties have also questioned the Prime Minister’s silence. The Nepali Congress said the state’s policy failures and the employment crisis were pushing young people into despair. According to them, the situation could be more complicated if the government does not take immediate action.
In the current situation, public dissatisfaction is on the rise in Nepal due to unemployment and the economic crisis, which poses a new challenge for the country’s political stability.
