US President Donald Trump has announced that the existing U.S. agreement with Iran (MoU) is over.
Addressing a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rut, said the previous agreement was no longer effective after the recent U.S. military operation against Iran.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said the United States carried out a very powerful attack on Iran, and now Washington’s main goal is to completely free Iran from nuclear capabilities. He accused Iran of creating regional instability and poses a threat to U.S. security.
Trump also said that Iran had previously been warned that a strong response would be given if it hits the U.S. interest. The United States is ready to take all necessary steps in the future.
Trump also expressed his dissatisfaction with NATO. He alleged that NATO members did not receive the expected cooperation in taking action against a state like Iran. He also expressed his anger at the European Union. Trump said relations between the two countries had deteriorated in the past after Spain had refused to allow U.S. military aircraft to use its airspace and bases. He also said that the government has decided to reconsider trade relations with Spain.
Before the announcement, the United States claimed to have attacked more than eight Iranian targets in the attack on three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran claimed a retaliatory attack targeting U.S. military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain. Since then, new military tensions have increased in the Middle East.
