Israel has launched fresh air and drone strikes in southern Lebanon just hours after a ceasefire with Hezbollah took effect.
Lebanon’s state news agency NNA reported that at least five people were killed in multiple attacks in the Nabatieh region from Friday night to Saturday morning.
Several residential buildings and homes were reportedly destroyed in the attack. At the same time, there was shelling in the city of Nabatieh and surrounding areas, spreading renewed panic among local residents.
Earlier on Friday, Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire brokered by the United States. A U.S. official, a senior Israeli official and multiple Hezbollah sources confirmed the ceasefire. The agreement was to take effect at 4 p.m. local time.
However, Israeli attacks shortly after the ceasefire began have thrown the conflict back into uncertainty, posing new challenges to efforts to establish stability in the Middle East.
