Five people have been killed after an Indian Air Force AN-32 military transport plane crashed in the Indian state of Assam.
The accident took place on Saturday morning when it landed at the Jorhat airbase in Assam.
According to reports, the plane lost control while landing on the runway and caught fire immediately after the crash. Rescue and firefighting activities were rushed to the spot.
Five people on the plane were killed in the crash, but the co-pilot survived. He was rushed to the spot and treated. Details about his condition have not yet been released.
After the incident, the Indian Air Force quickly deployed a Quick Response Team (QRT). They brought the fire under control and assessed the situation at the scene.
An investigation committee has been ordered to investigate the cause of the plane crash. Initially, it was reported that mechanical faults, technical problems during landing or other possible causes would be examined.
The AN-32 (Antonov AN-32) is a two-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. The aircraft, which was built in the former Soviet Union, has long been used as one of the main transport mediums of the Indian Air Force. There are currently about 100 AN-32 aircraft in the Indian Air Force fleet.
