Almost three decades after the death of popular Bengali film protagonist Salman Shah, the investigation has come up. The CMM court in Dhaka has ordered the lifting of the remains from the grave to uncover the real cause of his death.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order following a petition filed by CID inspector Ziaul Morshed, investigating officer of the case. According to the court order, the Surathal report will be prepared and the autopsy will be completed by lifting the remains in the presence of the executive magistrate.
The investigation officer said that the necessary administrative and legal proceedings will be completed before the implementation of the court’s directives. The body will then be extracted from Salman Shah’s grave and forensic examination will be carried out.
The background of the event
When Salman Shah was taken to the hospital in a critical condition from his home in New Eskaton in the capital on September 6, 1969, doctors declared him dead. A case of accidental death was registered in this connection.
However, there has been a long-standing debate about whether his death was suicide or murder. The family has repeatedly been charged with murder and calls for a fresh investigation.
The new murder case
On October 21 last year, Salman Shah’s uncle Mohammad Alamgir filed a murder case with Ramna police station in the capital. Several persons have been accused in the case under section 302/34 of the Penal Code.
The accused in the case are Salman Shah’s wife Samira Haque, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai and others. Unknown persons have also been arrested.
