PM to exchange Eid-ul-Fitr greetings at Jamuna

  • Preparations are underway for a state greetings exchange ceremony at the Jamuna State Guest House in the capital on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr . Government sources say that there are plans to use it as the Prime Minister’s official residence after the Eid formalities.

Government officials said that the building is not undergoing major renovations ahead of the event, but rather regular maintenance and beautification work. This includes cleaning, painting, and repairing some old infrastructure.

After the August uprising, Ganabhaban was converted into the ‘July Uprising Memorial Museum’. As a result, its long-standing use as a government residence ceased and a need arose to find new housing.

Although there were discussions to set up the Prime Minister’s residence in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area or Agargaon in the interim, it did not materialize. Later, the Jamuna State Guest House was chosen for this purpose considering it to be comparatively convenient.

Currently, the Prime Minister commutes from Gulshan to the Secretariat and the Prime Minister’s Office. According to those concerned, this is being considered a viable alternative as the distance from Jamuna Bhaban to these administrative centers is short.

Khalequzzaman Chowdhury, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, said that the ongoing works are small-scale and can be completed quickly. He expressed hope that the preparations will be completed within the stipulated time.

The Prime Minister has already attended two Iftar ceremonies at Jamuna Bhaban, where the presence of local and foreign guests was notable. It is believed that the building may become the Prime Minister’s official residence from the post-Eid period.
