Airstrike on Kabul hospital: Taliban claims 400 killed

International Desk »

  • The Taliban have claimed that at least 400 people have been killed in an airstrike targeting a hospital in the Afghan capital, Kabul. Local sources said that about 250 more people were injured in the incident, many of whom are in critical condition.

A Taliban spokesman said in a message on social media that the attack took place at around 9pm on Monday at a major medical facility in Kabul. He claimed that the Pakistani military was involved in the attack.

The target of the attack was an addiction treatment hospital named ‘Omid’, which had about 2,000 beds. A large part of this institution, which is run to treat drug addicts, was reportedly destroyed in the attack.

The Taliban said more people may be trapped under the rubble, which could lead to a higher death toll. The injured are being transferred to various hospitals.

There was no immediate reaction from Pakistan. It has not yet been possible to independently verify responsibility for the attack, the actual number of casualties, and the sequence of events.

Concerns are growing in the international community about this incident, especially as allegations of attacks on civilian installations have raised fears of a renewed humanitarian crisis.
