The four-day Police Week-2020 begins on Sunday (May 10th) with the theme ‘My Police, My Country, Bangladesh First’.
The event will officially begin with the annual police parade at the Rajarbagh Police Lines field in the capital. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the programme.
The Prime Minister will also visit and salute the disciplined parades of various contingents and flag carriers. At the same time, he will give a directional speech to the police members and hand over the medals to the selected members for their achievements.
According to the police headquarters, the police will continue till May 13th this week. During this time, the next year’s activities will be evaluated in different working sessions as well as the next day’s action plan will be determined.
On the occasion of Police Week, President Md. Sahabuddin, prime minister Tarique Rahman and home minister Salahuddin Ahmed issued separate messages.
In his message, the President said the stability, good governance and development of a state largely depend on the integrity, professionalism and discipline of the police force. He stressed the need to increase technology-based skills, including artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, CCTV surveillance and digital forensics, to combat modern crime.
In her message, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said it is essential to ensure public safety in building a human, just and democratic state. “Development of the law and order situation and restoring people’s trust in the police is one of the priorities of the present government,” he said.
He said the police’s ability to prevent crime, social stability and national progress are directly related. That is why the government is considering the modernization and development of the police force as an important part of public safety.
The Prime Minister called for a more effective role in preventing the spread of mob violence, juvenile gangs and drugs.
In his message, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the police personnel should become a symbol of the people’s trust and service. He also directed to be on high alert to ensure human treatment of victims as well as ensure that innocent people are not harassed.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar will serve as the captain of the annual police parade. Under his leadership, members of various units will participate in the colourful parade.
‘Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM)’, ‘President’s Police Medal (PPM)’, ‘BPM-Seva’ and ‘PPM-Seva’ will be awarded in recognition of their bravery, heroism, crime prevention, investigation skills and professional success in 2025.
Ministers, MPs, diplomats, high-ranking government officials and dignitaries will be present at the annual police parade.
