The government has announced a 7-day holiday for government officials and employees on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
At the same time, according to the 2026 academic calendar, there will be 16 consecutive days of holidays in schools and colleges and 21 days in madrasas.
The Cabinet Division announced this in a press release on Thursday night.
The notification said that the weekly holiday on May 23 (Saturday) has been canceled. All government officials and employees will have to be present in the office on that day.
No change in educational institution holidays
Although changes have been made to government office holidays, no changes have been made to the predetermined holiday schedule of educational institutions.
According to the academic calendar, the summer vacation and Eid-ul-Azha vacation in primary schools, lower secondary schools and secondary schools will begin on May 24 and end on June 4. Since there are weekly holidays before and after this, students are getting 16 consecutive days of vacation.
At the college level, a 12-day holiday has also been scheduled for Eid-ul-Azha. Including the weekly holidays, there will be a total of 16 days of break.
On the other hand, the summer vacation and Eid-ul-Azha holidays in madrasas will start from May 24 and continue until June 11. With the addition of a two-day weekly holiday before the holidays, madrasa students will enjoy 21 consecutive days of vacation.
A relief to celebrate Eid with family
The long holiday has brought relief to students and parents. Many say that it will be easier to celebrate Eid with family and plan trips to their hometowns.
