Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said that there is currently no shortage of vaccines in the country and 1.5 million doses of MR (measles-rubella) vaccine to prevent measles have already arrived.
He made this information at a briefing after receiving a shipment of vaccines provided by UNICEF at the VIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday.
The Health Minister said, “Today’s shipment has received 1.5 million doses of MR vaccine. Another 1.8 crore doses of MR, TD, BCG, TCV, BOPV and Penta vaccines will reach the country on May 10.”
He added that there is a plan to complete the supply of all vaccines through UNICEF by September this year. For this, the government has already provided 83.6 million US dollars, through which about 95 million doses of vaccine are being procured.
In addition, he said, it has been decided to procure an additional $35 million worth of vaccines through UNICEF after the cancellation of the open tender.
The Health Minister assured, “There is currently no shortage of vaccines in the country, and there is no fear of shortage in the future.”
