Political tensions have escalated over the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections in India. According to the trend of initial results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the way to form a government beyond the limits of majority.
According to the update of Anandabazar newspaper till 3pm, the BJP is ahead in 195 seats. On the other hand, the ruling Trinamool Congress is contesting from nine seats.
The BJP has seen the excitement in the camp as it hints at exceeding the ‘magic figure’ of the majority. The party’s supporters have started celebrating with the distribution of sweets in various places.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari claimed that “the people of Bengal have ruled in favour of development” and the party is going to form the government by a large margin. He also expressed his support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Meanwhile, preparations are being made to celebrate the victory at the BJP’s central office in New Delhi as it has indicated positive results in West Bengal as well as other states. Prime Minister Modi’s speech is expected.
Special attention is being paid to the results of Bhabanipur. The counting of votes in this seat is going on in a counting constituency in Kolkata. Tight security arrangements have been put in place outside the centre.
Supporters of the two parties have been staying outside the counting centre since the morning, but no one is allowed to enter for security reasons. According to the rules, the counting of votes begins with postal ballots from 8am Indian time.
On the other hand, the BJP’s state office in Salt Lake is monitoring the situation all the time. Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav and former Chief Minister of Tripura Biplob Kumar Dev were also present.
