Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has officially inaugurated the national-level talent exploration programme ‘New bud sports’ to open the door to new opportunities in the country’s sports.
He inaugurated the programme at a programme held at Sylhet District Stadium on Saturday (May 2nd) afternoon. The Prime Minister also joined the virtual programme and launched the activities in 64 districts of the country.
Addressing the children and teenagers, the prime minister said they have to take responsibility for the future of Bangladesh. He also urged the world to focus on sports and highlight the country’s reputation in the world.
The event started with the hoisting of the national anthem and the national flag. Later, the event went on through reading from the scriptures, displaying the documentary on the program and performing the theme song. The participants of the event presented eight different sports exhibitions.
Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam said the aim of the programme is to elect talented athletes from the grassroots level and promote national and international standards. The main purpose of this is to create a database of teenagers between the ages of 12 and 14 and find out talent from remote areas.
He also said that with the help of international standard training and sports science, the skills of the players will be developed so that Bangladesh can secure a strong position in the big competitions, including the Olympics in the future.
Minister of State for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque said the programme will play an important role in the development of the latent talents of the new generation along with the introduction of allowances and sports cards for the athletes.
