The government has sent 13 officers of the DIGs of Bangladesh Police and additional DIGs to mandatory retirement. The decision was taken in a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday.
According to the notification, the retirement has been carried out by the order of the President under the provisions of Section 45 of the Government Jobs Act 2018. The concerned officials will get retirement benefits as per the rules.
Retired staff include Dr. A.F.M. Masum Rabbani, Md. Sakhawat Hossain, Md. Ashrafuzzaman, AZM Nafiul Islam, Mohammad Abul Faiz, Md. Monirul Islam, Mahfuzur Rahman, Md. Munibur Rahman, Md. Iqbal Hossain, Shamima Begum, Md. Abu Kalam Siddique, Md. Aminul Islam and Salma Begum.
The list includes important police bodies, such as Police Staff College, Anti-Termister Unit, Tourist Police and Naval Police.
According to analysts, sending such a large number of senior officials to compulsory retirement can be a sign of administrative reorganization. However, the government’s official explanation for the decision was referred to the legal process.
