Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged the countrymen to be affordable in the use of electricity and energy in the wake of the ongoing energy market volatility around the world.
He made the call while addressing the ‘Independence Award-2026’ held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday (April 16). State honours were handed over to various individuals and institutions in recognition of their contributions at the national level.
The prime minister said despite the increase in the price of fuel oil in the international market due to the global war situation, efforts have been made to keep the price stable in Bangladesh considering the public interest. He said the government is keeping the situation under control even though it is providing a huge amount of subsidy every day in this sector.
He said it is the government’s responsibility to protect the interests of the people. Therefore, everyone should be aware to reduce waste in the state level to personal life to maintain the balance of the energy sector. He called for reducing unnecessary expenditures on government events and personal use.
He also highlighted the ongoing economic and administrative challenges of the country. The prime minister said corruption is the priority of the government to control corruption, improve the law and order situation and create employment.
Putting emphasis on making the education sector modern and work-oriented, she said it is important to build skilled human resources to keep pace with the current global competition. She also mentioned that ensuring the safety and participation of women is an important part of the development plan.
The prime minister claimed that there were various challenges in the economy and administrative structure when taking charge of the state, which the government is constantly working to deal with. He said the main objective is to achieve the commitment to advance development activities.
Apart from various political and administrative figures, family members of the awardees were also present on the occasion. They share their experiences and feelings of their contributions in their respective fields.
