Bangladesh has stepped up its liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports to maintain stable energy supplies amid ongoing unrest in the Middle East. As part of this, three ships carrying about 193,000 tonnes of LNG are scheduled to arrive at Chittagong Port in a span of five days.
The port authority said that a tanker named ‘HL Puffin’ carrying 61,997 tons of LNG from Australia has already anchored off the coast of Kutubdia. As per the schedule, two more ships named ‘New Brave’ carrying 61,000 tons of LNG from Indonesia and ‘Celsius Galapagos’ carrying about 70,000 tons of LNG from the United States will arrive at the port by Wednesday.
A senior official at Uni Global Business Limited, the ships’ local shipping agent, said the remaining two tankers are also expected to arrive on time according to the current schedule.
