In the first session of the 13th National Parliament, opposition coalition members left the session hall in protest over President Md. Shahabuddin’s speech.
Members of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami walked out as the president’s speech began.
The President was scheduled to deliver his address at the first session of the new parliament on Thursday, according to the constitution. Before the speech began, some members of parliament from the opposition alliance stood up from their seats, displayed placards and staged a protest.
At that time, Speaker of the Parliament Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikram) appealed to them to remain calm and requested them to maintain order in the Parliament. However, as the protest continued, the opposition members eventually left the session room.
