Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon has commented that current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was unjustly arrested on March 7, 2007, due to the then political situation.
In a video message released on Saturday to mark ‘Imprisonment Day’, he recalled the incident and said that Tarique Rahman was suddenly arrested that night without any arrest warrant.
According to Rumon, security forces surrounded the residence at that time and later took Tarique Rahman out of the room. He claimed that when the family members present at the time asked to see the arrest warrant, it was not shown.
In a video message, he said that the arrest of a political leader without a warrant is remembered as a controversial chapter in the country’s political history. According to him, the situation at that time remains a deep memory for many.
It is worth noting that BNP and its supporters commemorate the incident of March 7, 2007, as ‘Imprisonment Day’.
