The government has decided to extend the public holidays on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr. With the addition of an additional holiday on March 18, government employees will now be getting a total of seven consecutive days of leave.
The decision was approved at a cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
According to government sources, this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr may be celebrated on March 21, subject to the sighting of the moon. The Ministry of Public Administration had previously scheduled a five-day holiday from March 19 to 23, based on this possible date .
According to the new decision, an additional holiday will be added on March 18, meaning there will be four consecutive days off before Eid. Earlier, there was a government holiday on March 17 to mark Shab-e-Qadr.
