A drone attack by Iran has temporarily shut down Saudi Arabia’s most important oil refinery amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
An Iranian Shahed-136 drone struck the Ras Tanura refinery operated by Saudi state oil company Saudi Aramco , sources said.
A fire broke out in a part of the refinery after the attack. However, it was quickly brought under control and no casualties have been reported so far. Refinery operations have been temporarily suspended for security reasons.
Ras Tanura, located in eastern Saudi Arabia, is one of the world’s largest oil processing and export hubs. It has a capacity to refine more than half a million barrels of crude oil per day and supplies large quantities of oil to Asia, Europe and the United States from nearby terminals.
