Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has chosen the Jamuna State Guest House on Hare Road in the capital as his official residence, considering security and administrative convenience . Multiple sources from the Public Works Department and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works have confirmed the matter.
Muhammad Yunus , the chief advisor to the recently departed interim government, is currently staying in Jamuna . The Government Housing Directorate said he will vacate the residence on February 27. The prime minister will then move in after necessary renovations are completed.
Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Md. Khalequzzaman Chowdhury said that preparations are underway to complete the renovation work on the Jamuna quickly, keeping in mind the Prime Minister’s interest. The head of government has also expressed his desire to organize Iftar during the current Ramadan and host a guest reception on the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr on the Jamuna.
Earlier, the possibility of a new prime minister’s residence in the Sangsad Bhaban and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar areas was considered, but those plans were dropped due to time constraints and practical constraints. Currently, the prime minister is staying at her residence in Gulshan and commutes to the Secretariat and the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon from there.
