Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that all law enforcement agencies, including the police, must quickly fulfill public expectations by earning the trust of the people. He said this at a view-sharing meeting organized at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.
The minister said that people’s expectations are now very high as a political government was formed through a transparent election after a long period of one and a half decades. To fulfill that expectation, it is important to quickly implement the promises of the election manifesto. He directed to prioritize democratic reforms, especially in the law enforcement agencies, including the police.
He further said that the restructuring of institutions under the Ministry of Home Affairs and improvement of moral standards are now major challenges. Coordination will be made with the Ministry of Finance for the recruitment of necessary manpower and budget support to restore people’s trust.
Regarding the modernization of law enforcement agencies, the Home Minister said, “Sustainable development is not possible without well-planned and timely initiatives. For this, clear proposals and recommendations have been sought from the heads of the relevant departments and organizations, based on which the priority list of reforms will be finalized.”
