The government has decided to launch the ‘Family Card’ program on a trial basis during the month of Ramadan, ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo informed reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday.
The minister said that the meeting mainly discussed how to implement the program promised in the election manifesto. Everyone agreed on the decision that family cards will be issued.
Asked how many families will receive this benefit, he said, “The program is based on a universal concept. There will be no specific limitations. However, in the beginning of the implementation, priority will be given to the poorest families, and then there is a plan to include the poor and middle class in a phased manner.”
When asked whether the activities will start during Ramadan, the minister said that Tarique Rahman wants at least one pilot project to be launched before Eid. To that end, work is underway to finalize the initial structure and implementation methods.
