The 11-party alliance has finalized the opposition leadership in the 13th National Parliament. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was elected as the opposition leader at a parliamentary party meeting held on Tuesday (February 17) after the oath-taking of the members of parliament.
The Deputy Leader of the Opposition is the newly elected Member of Parliament from Comilla-11 (Chauddagram) constituency and Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher . And the responsibility of the Chief Whip of the Opposition has been given to Nahid Islam, convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Party .
Gaibandha-2 constituency MP and Jamaat’s Gaibandha District Ameer Md. Abdul Karim, who was present at the meeting , confirmed the decision. Party sources said that a formal announcement will be made soon through a joint press release from the 11-party alliance.
Earlier in the afternoon, first the members of parliament of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and later the members of the Jatiya Nagorik Party took oath. At the same time, they also took oath as members of the Constitution Reform Council.
