Ilyas Javed, a popular hero and timeless dancer from the golden days of Dhallywood, is no more. He passed away at the age of 82 after suffering from cancer for a long time (Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un). His death has cast a shadow of grief over the Bengali film industry.
Born in Peshawar in 1944, Ilyas Javed made his film debut in 1964 with the film ‘Nai Zindagi’. He rose to fame with the film ‘Payal’ in 1966. The actor gained popularity as a ‘dancing hero’ in the seventies and eighties for his unique skills in dancing and action.
His passing marked the end of a glorious chapter in Bengali cinema.
