A court has banned three top officials of United Group from leaving the country as investigations into corruption and money laundering allegations are ongoing. The Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka on Sunday passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Those banned are former United Group chairman Hasan Mahmud Raja, chairman and managing director Moin Uddin Hasan Rashid, and former Neptune Housing Limited MD Abul Kalam Azad.
The ACC said that during the investigation into multiple charges including seizure of government property, illegal acquisition of wealth, money laundering and irregularities in the electricity sector, the court sought a ban on the accused from leaving the country as there was a risk of them fleeing abroad. The court granted the application.
