The possibility of US military intervention is rapidly increasing in the context of the massive loss of life in the ongoing anti-government protests in Iran. According to various international sources, US military action against Iran may be taken within the next 24 hours.
Former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened “tough action” over Tehran’s alleged violence in suppressing protests. In this context, two European officials have said that Washington is on the verge of military intervention. At the same time, an Israeli official claimed that Trump has reached a decision to take some kind of action.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said the Pentagon has presented Trump with multiple options, including strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and ballistic missile sites, as well as the possibility of cyberattacks.
Hebrew-language media reported that the possibility of an attack had increased after Trump’s meeting with advisers. According to a US source, the US could no longer remain passive in the context of the ongoing “bloodshed”.
Meanwhile, Tehran has warned of a strong response to any potential attack. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that if the United States or Israel launches an attack, their military bases across the region could become targets.
