Russia has called plans for a new military strike against Iran “completely unacceptable,” warning that using Iran’s internal situation as a pretext for an attack would have dire consequences for global security, including the Middle East.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova sharply criticized the US position in a statement on Tuesday, saying that a repeat of past attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities would further destabilize the entire region and seriously undermine international security.
Zakharova also called the US threat to impose a 25 percent tariff on countries trading with Iran “blackmail,” saying that using trade tariffs as a weapon violates international law and diplomatic etiquette.
Regarding the ongoing anti-government protests in Iran, Russia claims that the movements have been artificially provoked and that the situation is gradually moving towards stability.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has called on Iranian protesters to continue their protests on social media and announced the cancellation of all meetings with Iranian officials if the violence against the protesters does not stop.
