National Citizens Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has warned that another rigged election is being attempted in the country and it will be thwarted before the polls. He made the warning while talking to reporters after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Bhaban in Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday (January 6).
Asif Mahmud said, “The administration’s bias towards a particular party is clear. Meeting government officials with the chairperson of that party is a bad sign for democracy. However, if the old settlement is followed, we will stop it. We will not wait until the election day.”
He also criticized the NSI chief for holding a meeting at a party office. He also expressed concern about the voting environment, saying, “A fair election is not possible by keeping identified terrorists out of jail. The EC and the government have not been able to create an environment for voting. In this situation, we have no confidence in the EC.”
He also alleged that the Returning Officer was working in favor of the major parties due to the lack of impartiality in the nomination paper verification process. He also expressed the fear that if the EC is not impartial in the appeal process, questions will arise about the fair election.
The NCP spokesperson also warned that any conspiracy to prevent the Jatiya Party from participating in the elections will be thwarted if it succeeds.
