Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in India, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad. While there was talk of changing the venue surrounding Mustafizur Rahman, there was a big surprise in the team formation – Nazmul Hossain Shanto and wicketkeeper Zaker Ali have been left out.
The team will be led by Liton Das, with Saif Hasan as vice-captain. Taskin Ahmed, who performed impressively for Sharjah Warriors in the recent IL T20, returns to the pace attack. The selectors consider this pacer, who was absent from the Ireland series, to be important for the World Cup.
Shanta did not make it despite his form, although his batting was in the discussion at the beginning of the BPL. At the same time, Zaker Ali and Mahidul Islam Ankan were dropped from the squad. The selectors said that there will be an opportunity to change the team based on performance in the BPL until January 31. After that, any change will require the approval of the ICC.
Bangladesh will begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies on February 7. The team will then play two matches against England and Italy in Kolkata and the final match of the league stage against Nepal in Mumbai.
